2008-12-16 – Corals from The Coral Ranch

I bought some new corals from The Coral Ranch this weekend!  They are located in New Lebanon, OH, which is just outside of the western side of Dayton.  Their setup is in a greenhouse and is also spread out amongst some frag tanks in a basement.  The greenhouse is sunlit and the only lights they have are for working during the evening hours.  All of their stock looked very healthy and clean and there were some good deals to be had!

They had a great deal of 5 frags for $40, so I took advantage of that and also got a nice acan frag for $20.  I also bought a scroll (turbinaria) frag that I had been researching since I saw a few in Florida that I wanted to get.  I am quite happy with this one and will get to watch it grow out over time, as I have watched many of my frags do over time.  I also got two blastomussa frags but haven’t gotten good enough pictures to post yet.  Here are the new corals I bought.

I also have started taking all RAW pictures for my coral shots.  This allows greater control over the exposure and I think the results are much better given my high actinic / purple haze lighting conditions.  I also put a text overlay on the images with the date taken and “Drimo’s Reef”.  Not really to protect my images, but because I have plans to expand my reefkeeping section of the site.  Anyway, I like the look.  Here are some new pictures of existing corals.
